REPAIRS PROCEDURE REPLACEMENT OF RUDDER STOCK AND RUDDER PLATE

On 21st of September 2019 the ‘M/V Port Dalian’, a vessel under Hong Kong flag, made grounding at Suez Canal resulting in damaged rudder stock. The challenge was to remove the rudder and rudder stock from under water, in order for the ship to be bullied away with one tug vessel, for further repairs in the trade dock. Final speed reached by ‘M/V Port Dalian’ during bullying was 7,5mph*.

At the same time, a sister vessel right in front of ‘M/V Port Dalian’ also made grounding, requesting support from a competitor company. Contrary to our approach, on the sister vessel the rudder was not removed, but a piece was cut from the rudder in order for the vessel to be bullied away. With 5 days delay, two tug boats bullied it away with a final speed of 2,8mph*.
